Introduction
ITScooperative introduces innovative applications of web services
developed for our clients. Web services and their service-oriented
architecture (SOA) are foundations for promoting widespread use
of best available services and information. On this page, we demonstrate new ways of working together for inter-organizational networks, federations, multi-disciplinary research initiatives, associations and others who value their own contributions and those of their partners.
This page is both a demonstration and a lab space. During ongoing
innovation and development of Web 2.0, some features may be off for brief periods.

Mappoint Web Services - Implementation Case Study
Features on the left side of the page demonstrate our Community
Asset application.
To experience it fully visit
www.preventstroke.ca. See how Mappoint web services answer the real question of many health information seekers,
"What's nearby that can
help me with this situation?"
On the administrative side of the site
it also answers strategic questions, such as,
"How well are we serving
this area?"
Search results display location maps based on
distance from a point of interest, such as home or workplace. The
user decides how far she is willing to travel. Enter a postal code
and see what the directory has nearby -- 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20 kms.
from your postal code. There are several thousand Ontario records and the database grows regularly.
If you are unfamiliar with Ontario geography and
postal codes or, if your area is not yet covered, try a search on the following postal codes:
Hamilton - L8P 4Y5
Ottawa - K1P 5AI
North Bay - P1B 4G1
St. Catherines - L2R 3W4
Thunder Bay - P7C 5K4
Toronto - M5H 2N2
The 'Mappoint Web Services' box on the
top right
this page contains direct links to these search services.
Each map is dynamically generated. Address changes
pass immediately to the mapping service. Click on any pin and go
directly to the full database record. Email a copy to a friend!
The technical foundation is MS.NET with XML . ITScooperative developed components in
C# to handle common processing tasks. In the back office of the application,
the administrative area provides multiple levels of security, one of which lets
site managers see how well any area is served by listed resources.
If the above paragraph confuses, just remember
that our platform supports change, flexibility, and security. Contributors
can add, change and even delete resources close to their community
or area of expertise.
Among the interesting features is the ability
to modify categories and have the results appear on all display
and search pages. Need to add a new risk factor? Has the terminology
changed? With the right level of permission, one can add, rename
or delete a category. The web application
is smart enough to force the
re-assignment of old categories before permitting deletion. Done.
No additional work for the web designer. No programming. No bottleneck.

At ITScooperative we understand the pressures
of providing accountable, public services. Unpredictable events

Stroke Prevention Web Services - Demonstration
At the bottom right is one of the first known
implementations of web services to community information. (If you
know of others, please correct us. We could not find any!)
What makes the box titled 'SPI WebService' not
just another search box? Although it behaves like any other search,
what is happening underneath is quite revolutionary.
Our web site is making a request of preventstroke.ca.
In that application, we built a web service. The SPI WebService
was configured to trust requests from this site. It responds to
the search and sends back the data in XML format which we then display
in list and detailed views.
Unlike the links in the 'What's New' box above
it, the user never leaves our site, and we could re-shape that information
in any way that serves our users best.
Trusted contributors can now log into an administrative
area and add their information. However, they have to come to the
main site both to contribute and to view resources. One of the goals
of the Stroke Prevention Initiative is to broadly engage collaborators
from regions and communities across the province. Offering web services
enables them to improve local and shared resources at the same time.
The SPI WebService is about getting valued health
promotion information used as widely as possible. It is also about
getting the best available local information. We seamlessly integrate
shared information with web sites and even databases of trusted
collaborators. Information is available to local web sites. Local
applications can channel updates to the central, shared database.
We implement core principles of successful information systems.
Get it right once. Get it as close to the source as possible.
Associations, collaborating networks, and other
trusted partnerships who agree on the organizational and other
considerations for exchange of services can apply ITScooperative's
WebService offerings to multiply their impact.
We configure WebService applications to implement
your process requirements for access permissions, data exchange, editing, review, usage reporting, and even payment, if applicable.

In a related vein, please notice the upper left
hand corner where we automatically monitor current additions and
updates. This monitoring is done on our limited test database, not
the full implementation. We can configure this as a both a web site
display and as a web service which automatically emails or notifies
subscribers on their desktop. Perhaps you only want to see changes in your region or for a specific risk factor? We can deliver exactly what you need.
